Emergency Crews Busy

A high wind that left as fast as it arrived caused a large tree to blow over in Nacogdoches. Consequently, the power went out in the neighborhood. The wind caused lots of downed limbs on Mound Street at Hughes. The tree caused some extensive damage to the power lines and poles in the area. The resulting power outages caused traffic signals in the area to fail. Mound Street was blocked for several blocks. Street crews began right away to remove the damaged tree.

Shortly after that emergency, firefighters were called to a house fire.   A family lost their home. It happened around 4:30 Tuesday afternoon in the 700 block of Locke street. The occupants said they first noticed the fire in the bedroom. The blaze quickly spread to the rest of the house. Firefighters did what they could to keep the flames from spreading to other nearby homes. Smoke could be seen coming from the attic of the small frame house. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
