Former City Manager Faces Charges

A former city manager turned himself in Friday morning to Nacogdoches County authorities and then promptly posted bond. Kenneth Murray was booked in jail on charges of misapplication of feduciary property and abuse of official capacity. A $2,000 bond was posted on each charge.

Sheriff Thomas Kerss said,  " Mr Murray authorized the disbursement of payment over and beyond what the city council had approved for an employee salary and I guess it's somewhat unusual in that the fact as best as we can determine Mr Murray did not personally gain from the disbursement. " According to the indictment Murray authorized $1,5OO, but no more than $20,000 to Kimberly Johnson, a city employee at the time. She's no longer with the city of Chireno and is facing theft charges in an unrelated case.
