by Christa Smith

A Lufkin man was killed yesterday when the plane he was flying crashed into an open field. The FAA reports that at 800 feet the pilot, Jeremy Stripling, called in a mayday saying his plane was losing altitude. The plane crashed just before one in the afternoon into a field on FM 2489 near CR 631 outside of Waco.  The plane that crashed was a rental from Southwood Partners of Lufkin. Now the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the accident trying to piece together exactly what happened.
