Last week KTRE reported that the leading candidate to take over as SFA's head softball coach was Gay McNutt. Monday, McNutt was officially named the new Ladyjacks skipper.
McNutt replaces Jenifer Wells. Mcnutt has thirteen years of division one head coaching experience. Her last seven years were at Southern Mississippi, where she won two Conference USA titles.
Mcnutt is an Alvin native, who also coached at Northwestern State for six seasons. She won three Southland Conference championships.
"I think that's why they hired me," McNutt says. "They want me to turn some things around at Stephen F. Austin. It's going to take some time, but I have the time to do it. I think it can happen here. We want to get into the conference tournament. Once we do that, we want to make strides at trying to win it."
