The pool at Jones Park in north Lufkin has been closed for almost a month now because the two lifeguards left after being attacked.
Just after 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12th, both lifeguards were assaulted during a confrontation with a swimmer who repeatedly refused to obey the pool rules. When one lifeguard went to a phone to call police, he was hit in the back of the head by the troublemaker. The second lifeguard was knocked out of his watch tower by a second suspect.
Both suspects are African-American males - probably around 17 years old. The first suspect had a distinctive goatee. It was about five to six inches long.
