City Finalizes Purchase of Historic Theater

Lufkin city leaders have finalized the purchase of a historic theater in town. The city council agreed to buy the Pines theater for just under $113,000.

The last movie was shown in the downtown attraction about 30 years ago, but council members plan to renovate the theater and restore it to its original state.

Once construction is complete, the 700-seat facility will be available for cultural events, movies and plays. Renovations will cost several hundred thousand dollars.
