Angelina Estates Owners Cry Foul

Last week, the East Texas News aired a story about housing violations at the Angelina Estates in Lufkin. Now, the owner of that apartment complex is speaking out.

In a written statement, Jesse Howard said his staff takes pride in how his tenants are treated. He also said a problem with bat infestation on the property was cleared up almost immediately.

Howard said Angelina Estates is canceling its contract with the Deep East Texas Council of Governments, not the other way around.

Last week, D.E.T.C.O.G. officials told us they were removing their Section 8 tenants from the apartments because the bats were a violation of Section 8 quality standards.

D.E.T.C.O.G. responded by saying "D.E.T.C.O.G. respects the decision by Angelina House to not participate in the Section 8 Rental Assistance Program. Our long history of working with the owners of the Angelina House will attest to our standards and our desire to work with those vital Landlords who assist with housing the Section 8 tenants seeking safe, sanitary and decent housing."
