Hung Jury in Sexual Assault Trial

A mistrial has been declared in the case against a Jasper man accused of committing a vicious sexual assault. Angelina County jurors could not decide if Johnathan Carruth raped his now ex-wife.

Carruth reportedly used the barrel of a 22-caliber hand gun to commit the crime last year. Authorities said he went to the woman's home and threatened to kill her and her male companion before he sexually assaulted her with the weapon.

Jurors will reconvene in the morning to sentence Carruth on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. A new trial is expected in the sexual assault case.
