Hendrix Takes Crown at Crown

by Ryan Peterson

Baylor sophomore Kristen Hendrix missed most of her freshman year because of a staff infection.  This summer she's made up for lost time.  Hendrix played flawlessly on the final three holes of the 2007 Women's State Amateur Championship.  Hendrix won the match play tournament at Crown Colony 2 and 1.

Kim Meck led the final match by one hole with four to play.  But a birdie by Hendrix on the 15th green, turned the tide.  After squaring the match with three to play, Hendrix used her irons to perfection.  Both resulted in short putts on 16 and 17.  The match never went to the 18th.

"It's so wonderful to be in the situation of the final match and everyone watching you and be able to pull through and hit the shots," Hendrix says.  "I've never been happier."

It was a tough path to the Crown at Crown.  Hendrix had to qualify for the championship flight on Monday.  Then win four straight matches to take the state title.
