A ton was made of Jorvorskie Lane's weight last season. The Aggie running back was teased national television during the Holiday Bowl, despite his Big 12 best 19 touchdowns.
On this years roster the Lufkin native is listed at 268. Texas A&M head coach Dennis Franchione says he used to worry about Lanes weight. But he quickly learned it didn't really matter.
"Last year we were in August two a days and the weight things came in," Franchione says. "I saw his weight and I said Kenny if he's not down to such and such weight we're going to hold him out the first game."
Coach says he thought it was a good statement that would force Lane to get into better shape. Franchione quickly had a change of heart.
"We went in to watch video of practice that morning," Franchione says. "A 20 yard run, 25 yard run, 30 yard run. I said Kenny whatever I said in the room disregard totally. It was stupid, let's just get him to the first game."
Lane and the Aggies open the season September 1st against Montana State.
