Commissioners Set Budget and Tax Rate for 2008

The Angelina County Commissioners Court Tuesday approved an $800,000 budget increase for 2008. The budget will go from $18.1 million this year to $18.9 million next year. Most of the funds will go toward bridge and road rehabilitation in the county.

County leaders also adopted next year's tax rate of 45 cents per valuation; a slight jump from the 2007 tax rate of 44 cents per valuation.

County Judge Wes Suiter said, "We're going to put about $750,000 more into road and bridge. The last few years they've been reduced in their funding in order to balance the general fund budget. So this year, we've decided to pump them back up and increase their revenue."

The commissioners also approved a November 6th election for five Angelina County towns requesting to stop retail alcohol sales in their communities.
