Back-to-School Health Drive Set for Thursday

Preparations are underway for a school supply and immunization drive for Angelina County students. The Boys and Girls Club in Lufkin spent Wednesday putting together packets of paper, pencils and other items for kids in need.

Students will be able to pick up the kits beginning at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the center on Angelina Street. They'll also be able to get required immunizations for a small fee.

Ramona Williams-Briggs of Gateway Prevention Services said, "It's still a lot of kids that need school supplies and there's a lot of kids that cannot afford school supplies. This is our way of giving back to the community. Also, we have a lot of health screenings that [will be] going on."

Students who show up for Thursday's back-to-school health drive at the Boys and Girls Club will also get to meet WNBA star Monica Lamb of the Houston Comets.
