Freedom Fighters: Billy Dean

For 45 years Billy Dean wouldn't talk about his experiences as a Marine on the front lines in the Korean War. Five years ago, at the request of his ill brother-n-law, Dean began putting those experiences into a book.

Dean fought in some of the biggest battles of the Korean War. It was in the battle for Detroit Mountain that Dean was wounded. Even after being wounded, Dean continued fighting until he stumbed over a buddy who had had his foot blown off. In fifteen below zero temperatures, through dangerous roads and mine fields, Dean carried his buddy on his back for a mile and a half before collapsing at American lines

In addition to quotations about the Marine Corps, Deans book contains a will given to him by a buddy who was killed a short time afterwards, and of course his own experiences in battle.
