7 On Your Side: BlueHippo Under Fire With Better Business Bureau

"What's up everyone. Pete here and welcome to BlueHippo," says the host in the company ad.

BlueHippo's 60 second sales pitch is one the BBB says targets those with fixed or low incomes and people with little or poor credit.

"So would you say buyer beware on this one?," asks KLTV 7 Reporter Christine Nelson.

"Oh! Big skull and crossbones," warns Better Business Bureau of Central East Texas President Kay Robinson.

Almost 1,500 complaints against BlueHippo have been filed with the Better Business Bureau.  That's just in the last 36 months.

Complaints include non-delivery of merchandise and BlueHippo's unwillingness to provide a refund or exchange.

"Our staff has been very astute letting them know how seriously bad this company is and how they treat people," says Robinson.

7 On Your Side did a little comparison shopping to find out if you're really getting a good deal.

On blue hippo's website they offer a Lenovo desktop for about $30 a week for 52 weeks. Total price: $1,455.  By the way the monitor is not included.

We went to Dell's website and found a similar computer, with much more hard drive space for $529...Monitor is included.

If you're unhappy with your BlueHippo purchase, they do not offer refunds. Only credit towards another purchase.

Lawsuits were filed in BlueHippo's home state of Maryland, along with suits in Illinois and West Virginia.

"Government action.  It's serious when you get to the attorney general," says Robinson.

BlueHippo released a statement on their website saying the settlement agreement in Maryland finds no wrong doing or violations...and that customer satisfaction has always been a top priority.

With ads airing right here in East Texas the BBB hopes you aren't added to the long list of unhappy customers.

The BBB has this advice when purchasing a computer by mail:

*Ask if there is a no-return policy or a time limit on returns. Most companies allow 30 days to receive a full refund.

*Look for both manufacturer and vendor warranties before you decide to buy.

*Contact the BBB where the company is located to get a reliability report.

The Community Food Drive in Lufkin is special to some because of the large amount of people it brings together from all walks of life.  "It's just like so many different people, very diverse," said volunteer, Priscilla Gonzalez. "It's just kind of cool to see all these people coming together to do one thing."
