Efforts to Name an African American Cultural Center

Efforts are being made to name an African American Cultural Center in Lufkin.

Monday night was the first meeting to establish the African American Multicultural and Arts Center organization. The goal is to establish a facility in Angelina County to house documents and records and to educate the community about the local multi-cultural history.

Victor Travis, the owner of the Lincoln Center, "There is no actual African American history museum anywhere, most of the information is kept at the East Texas museum."

The organization's meetings will be held on the third Monday of each month at 6 p.m.
