Paul Miles Sentenced

A former SFA student and Iraq veteran is beginning a 30-month federal prison sentence. The sentence is for an unregistered firearm, but the army sergeant is known for the role he played in a mysterious occurrence.

Sgt Paul miles received the sentence Wednesday morning in Beaumont federal court. He was first taken into custody last year for destroying a statue of the Virgin Mary with a pipe bomb. Since then he's been in county holding facilities. His family and defense attorney claim the Angelina County Jail denied their son medication and treatment for mental illness which he acquired while in Iraq.

Once the enlisted service man completes his 2 1/2 year sentence he'll receive a supervised release. The judge suggested a Missouri federal prison known for the care it provides mentally ill inmates.
