Top East Texas Sports Moment of 2007

by Ryan Peterson

You'd think 2006 would have been impossible to match for the Alto Yellowjackets.   But the defending state champions matched every win in 2007.   The number one team in Class A from start to finish, the Yellowjackets headed into the playoffs a perfect 10 and 0.

It would not be easy winning another state title.   A goal line stand was needed to beat Groveton in the first playoff game.   A strong and chilly wind in the state title game, kept scoring to a minimum.  But the Yellowjackets were too much for Seymour.

"This is great not only to be state champs, but to win it twice," Alto Head Coach Keith Gardner said after his second straight championship.  "Those kids work so hard. They're undersized but they go out and battle."

"It's sad that it's over," Linebacker Lance Low said.  "I guess you couldn't have it any other way then to win state."

28 straight wins and counting, the top East Texas sporting moment of 2007.
