Funeral services for Viera Craven, 93, of Lufkin will be held Friday, January 4, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. in the Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Brother Gary Craven officiating. Interment will follow in the Zavalla Cemetery.
Mrs. Craven was born January 2, 1914 in the Aldredge Community, Jasper County, Texas, to the late Louella (Ferguson) and George Washington Dyson, and died Tuesday, January 1, 2008 in Jasper.
Mrs. Craven resided in Angelina County most of her life and was a homemaker. She enjoyed working hard and loved company, her home life and her family. Mrs. Craven was a great storyteller and dancer. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her daughter, Yvonne Hornsby of Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Eloise and Donald Walters of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Charles Ray and Janice Craven of Zavalla; daughter, Frances "Fran" Barnes of Lufkin; grandchildren, Kathy and Rodney Owen, Vernon Glenn and Karen Hornsby, Jarrod L. Dunkin, Katrina S. and Ruston Smith, Steve and Deborah Hornsby, Kay and Ryan Lohr, Roger Hornsby, Lisa and Greg Burch, David L. Craven, Kirby Stark, Emily and Richard Meisel, Julie and Jacob Phillips; 26 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Craven; son, Curtis D. Craven; daughters, Georgia R. Craven and Dorris Stark; and sons-in-law, Vernon Hornsby, Kirby Stark, Barry Barnes and Norman Estes.
Pallbearers will be Glenn Hornsby, Steve Hornsby, Roger Hornsby, Kirby Stark, Kevin Johnson and Rodney Owen.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home in Huntington.
