Myrtle Rushing of Diboll was born July 21, 1903, in San Augustine County, Texas, the daughter of the late Carrie Frances (McKinney) and Joe Nolen. She passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2008, in a Diboll nursing facility at the age of 104 years old.
Mrs. Rushing was a homemaker and a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She was devoted to her family. She loved to cook and kept a meticulous house. She and her late husband, Jim, were married for 66 years. Mrs. Rushing was a member of Homer United Pentecostal Church and had resided in the Diboll area most of her life.
Survivors include her daughter, Jakie Wilkerson of Diboll; grandsons and their wives, Burlon and Jan Wilkerson, Reidel and Wanda Wilkerson, all of Diboll, and Lanny and Pam Wilkerson of Lufkin; great grandchildren and their spouses, Trey and Michele Wilkerson, Krista and Mario Ochoa, Melanie Wilkerson, Rashael Wilkerson, Gentry and Brandy Wilkerson, Logan Wilkerson and Landon Wilkerson; great granddaughters, Abigail, Sarah, Elizabeth and Annabeth; brother, Allen Nolen of Texas City; sister, Mary Wright of Conyers, Georgia; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceding Mrs. Rushing in death was her husband, Jim B. Rushing, in 1990.
Pallbearers will be Burlon Wilkerson, Reidel Wilkerson, Gentry Wilkerson, Lanny Wilkerson, Trey Wilkerson, and Gordon Wright. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Grantham, Logan Wilkerson, and Landon Wilkerson.
Services for Mrs. Rushing will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 5, 2008, in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ronnie Frankens and Rev. Gentry Wilkerson officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
