Several Organizations Receive Money from Charity Walk

by Jessica Cervantez

Ten East Texas organizations received checks thanks to a wellness program.

Wednesday was the celebration luncheon for the Brookshire Brothers "Walk for Charity 2007" wellness program.

Each employee was assigned to a team to see how many steps they could walk. The top teams would get to donate money to a charity of their choice.

Lori Elizondo's team finished on top giving the American Cancer Society a $2,500 check. Her goal was to get 10-thousand steps a day, and she said some days that was difficult.

Elizondo said, "It was hard.  Yes, I would have to force myself to get off the couch to go walk down the road and back to get my steps."

The Women's Shelter of East Texas received $1,500, Harmony Hill received a thousand. And The Coalition, Hospice in the Pines, Buckner Center, Kidd's Kids, Angelina Alliance for Children, CASA, and Love Inc., all received $250.
