Aubrey W. Simms
Funeral services for Aubrey W. Simms, 75, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend R. G. "Bud" Davis and Reverend Ray Pinner officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Peebles Cemetery in Polk County.
Mr. Simms was born August 7, 1932 in Lufkin, Texas to Charlotte (Allen) and Burke Simms, and died Sunday, January 13, 2008 in a local hospital.
A former resident of Goodrich, Mr. Simms had resided in Lufkin for the past 8 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and was a carpenter. Mr. Simms enjoyed gardening, and was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, LaJune and Charles Yates of Huntington; daughter, Amelia Short of Florida; grandson, Randy Yates; granddaughter, Annie Due; five great-grandchildren; sister, Blanche Bruner of Lufkin; sister and brother-in-law, Sherry and Marion Rhodes of Lufkin; brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Margie Simms of Lufkin; stepsons, Jimmie Harvey and Billie Harvey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dell Simms; parents, Charlotte and Burke Simms; and daughters, Audrey Simms and Pam Simms.
Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Yates, Terry Allen, Ronnie Lee Simms, Carson Bynum, Andrew Vyvial, Garrett Vyvial and Ryan Aldrich.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the First United Pentecostal Church Building Fund, 3200 South Medford Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75901.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
