Funeral services for James C. Quarles, 82, of Huntington will be held Monday, January 21, 2008 at 2:00 p. m. in the Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home Chapel, Huntington, with Brother Dock Lazarine officiating. Interment will follow in Jonesville Cemetery.

Mr. Quarles was born December 21, 1925 in the Homer Community in Angelina County, to Alford L. and B. D. (Welch) Quarles, and died Friday, January 18, 2008 at his residence.

Mr. Quarles resided in Huntington for most of his life. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Tom Padgett of Baytown and Barbara and Ronnie Durdin of Trinity; six grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; sisters, Virginia Skinner and Patsy Manning of Huntington and Savanna Wheaton of Corpus Christie; a number of nieces and nephews; and a special canine friend named "Ugly".

He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma "Winnie" (Lazarine) Quarles; son, James Michael Quarles; his second wife, Clarice (Collier) Quarles; and a number of brothers and sisters.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones for visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Monday afternoon before the service at the funeral home in Huntington.
