Dorothy Carleen Fann Baker, 88, was born September 18, 1919 in Angelina County, and passed from this life on January 20, 2008.

Dorothy was the youngest of 9 children of Marion Edgar Fann and Sara Elizabeth Cryer-Fann. Preceding her in death were her parents, 3 brothers and 5 sisters.

Dorothy met and married John Olice Baker on September 26, 1940. Together they enjoyed 50 years of marriage. John Olice preceded her in death in 1991. To the union of John and Dorothy, 2 children were born, John O. Baker, Jr. of Groveton and Elizabeth Lynn Baker Shlenhamer of Houston.

John and Dorothy owned and operated several restaurants and cafeterias during their marriage, with the last one being in Chestnut Village in Lufkin. Texas. Dorothy was always by her husband's side during their working years, and together they were a great team. With the birth of the first grandchildren, Dorothy became loving known as "Meme", the name she went by till her death.

Dorothy (Meme) is survived by her son, John O. Baker, Jr. and his wife Martha; her daughter, Elizabeth Shlenhamer and her husband Jerry; 6 grandchildren; 1 step-granddaughter; 9 great-grandchildren; and several step-great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Expressions of sympathy in Dorothy's memory may be made to Prairie View United Methodist Church, 307 Denman Road, Kennard, Texas 75847.

Services for Dorothy will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 25, 2008, in the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park, with Pastor Larry Dunn officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 2:30 p.m. until service time Friday at the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel.
