Harmony Christian School Fundraiser

An empty parking lot and building off South John Reddit were once owned by Occucare. But now it's the property of Harmony Hill Baptist Church, and they've got some big plans for it.

Harmony Hill Baptist Church Senior Pastor John Greene said, "There's more acreage there that we can expand to for the school for the future and the excellent price that we were able to get for the building."

Harmony Hill bought the building from Occucare several months ago. They've started a fundraiser called "Paving the Way to Life Phase II." the goal is to raise enough money to help relocate the current Harmony Christian School to the old Occucare building. The projected cost is 3.5 million dollars.

"Then we're also making several adjestments here on campus to upgrade our children's facilities and we're going to add a new street from our property to Harmony Hill Drive. So there's a lot of things that we're including in this one move," Greene said.

The goal is to help the church grow, but mainly by better facilitating the children. Harmony Hill members know the project is expensive, but believe any project aimed at helping the children of East Texas is priceless.

"If you're going to touch the future of our nation or of our state you have to start with children. It has basically to do with just understandin human nature. You speak to the children if you want to change the next generation," Greene told us.

Harmony Hill members expect to finish the project by the end of 2008 or the beginning of 2009.
