Some East Texans received training so that they're prepared in case of a disaster. First United Methodist in Lufkin hosted an early responder training class today. The United Methodist Committee on Relief holds these sessions throughout the year to prepare volunteers to be ready to help during times of disasters. Trainers say the problem is getting people involved. "The interest was greater right after the hurricane's that came through in 2005. We didn't have a major hurricane come through this part of the country in 2006 and 2007 so the interest isn't as great as it was at that time but there still is a need because you never know when that's going to happen," Tom Hulon said.
