Ethel Ricks Currie, 90, of Lufkin, was born February 23, 1917, in Angelina County, Texas, the daughter of the late Cora (Gann) and Bonner Ricks. She passed away Friday, February 1, 2008, in a local hospital.
Mrs. Currie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She enjoyed crocheting and needlework. She was a member of Heritage Baptist Church, and loved her church and church family.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Ray K. and Teresa Currie of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Cora Sue and Doyle Herndon of Milam; daughter, Lena Faye Holcomb of Lufkin; grandchildren, Steve Currie, Geri Paulette, Gary Currie, Nicki Forrest, Karen Smith, Richard Herndon and Joshua Holcomb; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Arthur E. and Mary Ricks of Lufkin; sister, Mildred Gillikin of Lufkin; sister-in-law, Geneva Ricks of Lufkin; and a number of nieces, nephews and other family members.
Mrs. Currie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Archie L. Currie; brothers, Leighton Ricks, Glenn Ricks and Murrell Ricks; and sister, Blanche Willis.
Pallbearers will be Jim Housley, Wayne McDougald, Gary Flowers, Charles Ricks, Kenneth Ricks and Chris Ricks.
Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Services for Mrs. Currie will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 4, 2008, in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Mark Sawyer and Bro. Larry Luster officiating. Interment will follow in the Berry Cemetery.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
