Annexation Approved, Zoning Change

The Lufkin city council approved the annexation of 55-acres to be part of Lufkin's city limits. Dozens of residents attended Tuesday night's meeting. The police department will start servicing the area Wednesday.

The council members also approved in the first reading a zone change. This would affect about 24 acres off of Tulane, on Brown and Rich Street, behind the Garden District.

It would change the classifications of residential large single family dwelling, neighborhood retail, and commercial, to just commercial in order to bring in more business.
