Nacogdoches County jailers are receiving what you could call, their own tailor made, economic stimulus check. They learned today they'll receive back pay for their comp time. Jailers work a lot of overtime because the state jail standards require a certain ratio of jailers and inmates. Improvements in jail operation has led to a reduction in the jail population. Consequently, the county can afford to devote $56,000 toward comp pay. County Judge Joe English said, " Our outside auditors are here this week doing an audit on the county and they categorize that comp time as liability. So not only is it a debt, it is a liability and so we're able to reduce our liability and our debt and that's a win win situation for Nacogdoches County." Jailers should have their checks in their next pay envelope.
