Vada Jones Fowler
Vada Jones Fowler, 91, of Lufkin, was born February 18, 1917, in Lufkin, Texas, the daughter of the late Ida (Dunkin) and Loyd Hampton Jones. She passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2008, in a Lufkin hospice facility.
Mrs. Fowler was retired from the Angelina Hotel after 40 years of service. She enjoyed cooking and baking sourdough bread. She prepared many loaves for church potluck dinners and to share with neighbors, friends, relatives, church members and shut-ins. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, and had lived in Lufkin all her life.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lynn Durham Neal and J.W. "Bill" Neal of Lufkin; several nieces, nephews and cousins, and the children who lived next door, Megan, Koda, Kyler, Kenley and Kase, who were the joy of her life.
Preceding Mrs. Fowler in death were her husband, Arthur Fowler; her parents; and four brothers, Suel, John, Harrison and Elzy Jones.
Pallbearers will be Steven Shockley, Jerry Warren, Charles Read, Ray Jayroe, Bill Simpson, Tom Holland, Lenwood Trahan and Don Morris.
Honorary pallbearer will be Koda Duren.
Expressions of sympathy in Mrs. Fowler's memory may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene, 1604 S. Medford Dr., Lufkin, TX 75901; or to Hospice in the Pines, 116 S. Raguet, Lufkin, TX 75904.
Services for Mrs. Fowler will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 26, 2008, in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Craig and Lay Pastor Franklin Spruiell officiating. Interment will follow in the Huntington Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
