Mattie Lou Jordan
Mattie Lou Shaw Jordan, 96, of Lufkin, Texas, was born March 4, 1911, in Carthage, Texas. She was the last surviving sibling of the six children born to Malcolm and Pearl Shaw. Her brothers were Malcolm Shaw Jr. and Dan Shaw, and her sisters were Marjorie Steadham, Opal Cunyas and Sylma Megginson. She passed away February 25, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center in Lufkin.
Mrs. Jordan was a 1929 graduate of Carthage High School. She attended Baylor University in Waco and graduated from Baylor School of Nursing in Dallas in 1933. This fulfilled her lifelong goal of becoming a registered nurse. She was a very sensitive, caring and loving nurse who truly loved her profession. She was honored with inclusion in Who's Who in Nursing.
Lou married Dr. Andrew Booty Jordan Sr. in 1935 and briefly lived in Kilgore during the oil boom. Later that year, Dr. and Mrs. Jordan relocated to Atlanta, Texas, and made this their home until retiring to Lufkin in 1990. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Atlanta Garden Club and enjoyed many other community activities. Lou was an excellent cook and was very involved in her children's activities. She loved to travel with her husband to the Ozark Mountains, and had special interest in the Red Apple Inn in Heber Springs, Arkansas.
As a young girl, she expressed herself by writing cards and letters to her family and friends. As she matured, she continued to communicate by letter with family and friends. She always remembered birthdays and holidays with special cards and notes. Her faith in Christ was strong, and she placed a high value on family traditions and passed that along to the younger generations of the family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were a delight to her, and she loved to tell others about them. Lou's devotion as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother was her passion in life.
Mrs. Jordan is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Dr. Andrew Jr. and Arline Jordan, and John and Judy Jordan, and her daughters and sons-in-law: Lou Ann Jordan Higginbotham, and Gwen Elizabeth and Jimmy Muguerza.
Her grandchildren are: Andrew Jordan III., Dr. Arthur and Emily Jordan, Cynthia and Kenny Bogle, Jason Jordan, Jennifer Jordan, Julia Jordan and Burke Stoll, Taylor Higginbotham III., Andrew and Erin Higginbotham, Laura and Taylor Dwyer, and Jimmy Muguerza III.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Dr. Andrew Booty, Sr., in 2001.
