Proud Of East Texas: "Boom"

The days of the great East Texas oil boom will live again when the musical Boom, which opens at the Kilgore High School Auditorium.  Lottie Guttry is the composer, playwright, and lyricist of the musical.  Although Guttry was only a toddler during the boom days, she remembers stories told her by her grandfather, Asbury King, the Gregg County Sheriff.

When The Daisy Bradford Three blew in a gusher on October 5, 1929, East Texas was changed forever.  Guttry's songs, "Boom", "This Town Will Never Be The Same Again," and "Looking For Adventure" tell the stories of discovering oil, the great influx of people looking for work and riches, and the sense of adventure that was as contagious as measles.

The musical will be presented Saturday, March 8th at the Kilgore High School Auditorium.  There will be two performances at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.  Tickets are $10.00 at the door.
