Gene Davidson joined the Navy in 1942 and by the time the war was over had fought in almost every major World War Two battle in th South Pacific, including Guadalcanal, Okinowa, and Iwo Jima. Davidson was a gunner's mate aboard the U.S.S. San Francisco, which became the most decorated ship in the fleet. Davidson received many awards including an unprecidented fifteen Bronze Stars for valor.
