The most successful season in the modern era for the SFA Lumberjack basketball team, is still producing results. For the first time in school history, SFA is the home to the Southland Player of the year and Coach of the Year/
Junior Josh Alexander has been named the Southland Conference "Player of the Year," after leading the 'Jacks to a share of the SLC regular season title and the number one seed in this weeks conference tournament.
Alexander was the second leading scorer in the conference, scoring 16.5 points a game, while pulling down nearly 6 boards a game, landing him in the top-20 in both. Along the way, Alexander also set the SFA three point shooting mark, setting the record earlier in the year.
Head Coach Danny Kaspar, also took home some hardware, as he guided the 'Jacks to a 25-4 record, the best in modern history, on his way to being name the "Coach of the Year." This is Kaspar's third 20-win season, but his first since the 2003-2004 campaign.
Matt Kingsley was named to the second team all SLC, after averaging 15 points and 5 boards.
Point guard Eric Bell was an Honorable Mention selection.
The 'Jacks return to the court on Thursday, in the Southland Conference tournament quarter-finals at 6:00 from the Merrell Center in Katy, against UT-San Antonio.
