Malcum Oliver, 82, of Lufkin, was born April 23, 1925, in Houston County, Texas, and he passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at his residence.
Mr. Oliver was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was retired from the Texas Highway Department as a heavy equipment operator. He loved to hunt, fish and spend time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Jeffie Oliver of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jimmy Glawson of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Royce and Sandy Oliver of Lufkin; grandchildren and spouses, Tami Cecil, Christi and Gary Rowe, Starlan Glawson and Shana Looney, Clint and Winter Oliver and Clay and Stephanie Oliver; great-grandchildren, Lauren and Garrett Cecil, Daniel, Hunter, Casen and Caden Rowe, Macey and Braxton Oliver, Bosten, Brynn and Brodie Oliver; brother and sister-in-law, Floyd and Ottie Faye Oliver of Clute; sister and brother-in-law, Estelle and John Hill of Lufkin; sister, Othela Cox of Houston; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.
Mr. Oliver was preceded in death by his parents, Ella (Anderson) and Vinson Oliver; brothers, Raymond Oliver and Lloyd Oliver; sisters, Ethel Mettlen and Faye Mathews; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jeff and Liddie Anderson.
Pallbearers will be Starlan Glawson, Clint Oliver, Clay Oliver, Gary Rowe, Collis Modisette, Kenny Modisette, Gilbert Rice and Doug Nichols.
Mr. Oliver's nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Services for Mr. Oliver will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2008, in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Raiff Turner and Bro. Steve Cowart officiating. Interment will follow in the Gann Cemetery, with prayer by Bro. Ross Black.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
