Central Heights Fully Armed

by Ryan Peterson

Central Heights has seen some great pitching over the years.   The 2004 state championship team was loaded with great arms.  No hitting machine Russ Fornea and Zac Baker both played division one baseball.

So when coach David Russell says this years pitching staff is just as good, you better take notice.  Ranked number one in the 2A preseason poll, the Blue Devils are built for another state championship run.

Future Rice Owl Trey Haley leads a four deep rotation that includes Doug Vardeman, Clay Hamblett and Taylor Fancher.

"We have kids throwing anywhere from the 80's to the 90's," Haley says.  "We can come in and shut people down in a variety of ways."

The variety will help later in the year.

"Hopefully come playoff time we will have shared the innings pretty well this season," Vardeman says.  "And hopefully all over our arms will be really fresh."
