Hubert "Pistol" L. Murrah
Hubert (Pistol) L. Murrah, 83, was born April 1, 1924, in Angelina County, Texas, the son of the late Hester (Forsythe) and Virgil Murrah. He passed away Sunday, March 16, 2008, in a local nursing facility.
Mr. Murrah was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was retired from Lufkin Industries Trailer Plant, following more than 36 years of employment. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was a member of Cedar Ridge Hunting Club. Mr. Murrah also enjoyed gardening, farming and ranching. He served his country in the United States Air Force during World War II. Mr. Murrah was a member of Burke Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Clarice (Kirk) Murrah of Diboll; daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and Willie Holcombe of Riverside, Glenda and Charles Brooks of Beckville and Kathy and Ronnie Hamilton of Troy, Alabama; grandchildren, Wendy and Chuck Smith, Kelley Hartley, Justin and Sherrie Hamilton, Nacona Hamilton, Amber Holcombe and Jubal Holcombe; great-grandchildren, Hallie Smith, Logan Smith, Emily Smith, Danyal Foster, Krystal Foster, Draven Hartley and Jackson Hamilton; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Patsy Murrah of Slocum; sister, Louise Largent of Houston; a number of nieces, nephews, other family members; and a host of friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Murrah was preceded in death by his brothers, Chester Murrah and Elroy Murrah; and sister, Alice Johnson.
Pallbearers will be John Riley O'Quinn, Clyde O'Quinn, Ben O'Quinn, Jay Don Bailey, Mike Stracener and Riley Dean O'Quinn.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Parrish, Hubert O'Quinn, Tommy Wells; and members of Cedar Ridge Huntington Club.
Expressions of sympathy in Mr. Murrah's memory may be made to Burke Baptist Church, 3855 Tidwell Road, Diboll, Texas 75941; or to the charity of your choice.
Services for Mr. Murrah will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008, in the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel at the Garden of Memories Memorial Park, with Reverend Jerry Chandler officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
