The bulls are bucking and the cowboys are looking for their 8 seconds of fame, as the PRCA rodeo has made it's way into Nacogdoches and it's bringing dollars into the county. "It's going to make a great economic impact because you have all the contestants that come here. We have 484 contestants so out of these 484 contestants they gotta buy some fuel, they gotta eat somewhere and do some shopping," Bill Plunkett, Expo Center Manager explained. Those contestants have come from across the country and one cowboy is here all the way from Italy. He's experiencing East Texas hospitality at its best, as locals have already been filling the stands, ready for some true rodeo action. "It's traditional rodeo with all the way from bull riding, steer wrestling, team roping, tie down roping, saddle bronc, barrel racing, it's a complete rodeo," Plunkett said.
He explains that it's a family event where the kids can even get involved. Mutton bustin, sponsored by KTRE, is being held for the little ones every night and tonight's winner says getting ready for the ride was also a family effort. "I practiced on my brother last night he kept on but I didn't fall off of him," Kane Key said. The roping and bronc riding will continue through Saturday night.
