Mildred Barker Maddux
Funeral services for Marjorie Mildred Barker Maddux, 90, of Lufkin will be held Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Cary Modisett officiating. Interment will follow in the Kitchens Cemetery
Mrs. Maddux was born July 2, 1917 in the Montalba, Texas to Archie Randall and Martha Ola (Roberson) Casey, and died Friday, April 11, 2008, in a local hospital surrounded by her loved ones.
Mrs. Maddux enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid day lily gardener and golfer. She played golf up until the approximate age of 83, and particularly enjoyed playing with her grandsons and great grandson. One of the most memorable games was when she had a hole in one during a tournament at the age of 78. She was a member of the Lufkin County Club Women's Golf Association, the Lufkin Day Lily Club, and the Hemorcallis Club. She loved the Lord and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lufkin. She was a beloved mother and grandmother (Nanny).
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Don Craig of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Mary Barker of Lufkin; granddaughter and husband, Brenda and Ed Jones of Lufkin; grandson and wife, Dr. Steve and Kim Widner of Austin; grandson and wife, Russell and Paige Widner of Kingwood; grandson and wife, Mike and Stacey Widner of Bastrop; grandson and wife, Kyle and Tamara Barker of Lufkin; granddaughter and husband, Stephanie and Jason Berry of Lufkin; grandson, Stephen Barker of Lufkin; fifteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandson, and sister Bonnie Mundy of Palestine.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Martha Casey, husband, Herman Barker, husband Buford Maddux Sr., sister Jackie Barr, sister Leslie Winger, sister Virginia Casey, brother Vernon Casey, brother Lucian (Boo) Mason and brother, Lonnie Mason.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Barker, Steven Barker, Mike Widner, Steve Widner, Russell Widner, Ed Jones, and Jordan Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be her great grandsons.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
