Rosa Sawyer Adams

Rosa Sawyer Adams

Rosa Sawyer Adams, 85, of Huntington, was born August 17, 1922, in Buna, Texas, the daughter of the late Margaret Lenora (Simmons) and Albert C. Leviness. She passed away Saturday, April 12, 2008, in a local hospital.

Mrs. Adams was a homemaker and a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was a member of Hudson United Pentecostal Church.

Sister Fern Hodges was close to her heart, along with all her church friends, too numerous to mention. She lived a lot of her life in the garden, and from there to her flower beds. But one of the "loves of her life" was her "fishing". Her beautiful red bonnet is firm proof of this!

Another love of her life was her great cooking, which she shared with any and all of her many children and friends.

She left all her friends at Huntington Health Care, where Mike and Mark, along with their staff, made life one big blessing for her final life on earth, and for that, we say "Thank you from our hearts!"

Mrs. Adams is survived by her husband, Robert E. Adams of Lufkin and his family; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Dell Sawyer of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanene and Marvin Hale of Huntington; Lois and David Shelton of Lufkin and Alice and Donald Stringer of Huntington; daughter, Emma Hardy of Lufkin; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Buddy Barclay of Warren; sister-in-law, Dena Smith of Newton; and a number of nieces, nephews and other family members.

Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by her husband, Junis W. Sawyer; son-in-law, Raymond Hardy; brother, Thomas Smith; and sisters, I. V. Yawn, Viellena Vanderslice and Bertha Mae Talley.

Pallbearers will be Jason Sawyer, Henry Earl Sawyer, Bradley Stringer, Daron Shelton, Dale Carter and Brent Forrest.

Honorary pallbearers will be Craig Hale, Chuck Hardy and Michael Hardy.

Services for Mrs. Adams will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2008, in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Ron Smith, Bro. Clayton McClendon and Bro. Johnny Girardo officiating. Interment will follow in the Whitehouse Cemetery.
