Dorothy Elaine Taylor was born September 3, 1917 in Center, Texas, the daughter of the late Virgie Owen Looney and Robert Cleveland Looney. She passed away peacefully on April 14, 2008, in her room at Pinecrest Retirement Community.
Dorothy was a gently, kin and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was noted for her beautiful smile, and never spoke a harsh word to anyone.
Most of her young life was lived in Rusk, Texas, where she graduated from Rusk High School. She moved to Lufkin in 1936 after her marriage to Alfred Monroe Taylor. She was a life-long member of First Christian Church of Lufkin.
Mrs. Taylor is survived by one daughter, Patricia Ann and son-in-law, John Lee Slaughter of Lufkin; grandson, Robert Lee Slaughter and his wife Beverly Slaughter of Lufkin; sister, Elizabeth Elliott of Rusk; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Lois Taylor; sisters-in-law, Lola Will Taylor, Mary Nell Taylor, all of Lufkin, and Marguerite Johnson of St. Peter, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Alfred Monroe Taylor; and brother, Frank Owen Looney of Zwolle, Louisiana.

Services for Dorothy will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 17, 2008, in the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel in the Garden of Memories, with Reverend Mike Hunter officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
