John L. "Lem" Anderson, Jr.
Memorial services for John L. "Lem" Anderson, Jr., 92, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Gerald Hollis officiating. At that time, Dan Lamont, Jimmy Cassels and Clifford Grum will reflect on the life and times of their friend, Lem. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home.
Mr. Anderson was born October 1, 1915 in Humboldt, Tennessee to Neely Emma (Sain) and John Lemuel Anderson, Sr., and died Wednesday, April 16, 2008 in a local hospital.
A former resident of Alexandria, Virginia and Illinois, where he resided most of his adult life, Mr. Anderson had resided in Lufkin for 10 years. He served on multiple Senate investigative committees, and several years later began working as a political lobbyist. Two important clients he served in this capacity were Temple-Inland and Time, Inc.
For the past 10 years Mr. Anderson had enjoyed a life of retirement in Lufkin, enjoying his garden and animals. He also loved cutting horses, hunting and fishing. Mr. Anderson was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.
He is survived by his niece, Ruth Ann Sobbe of St. Louis, Missouri; several other nieces and nephews; and a host of friends in and around Lufkin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Victoria Frances Anderson; sister, Lexie E. Mundy; and brother, Cyrus Tyree Anderson.
