Proud Of East Texas: Greyhound Adoption

Until recently Greyhounds, the oldest pure breed dog family known to man, have been euthanized, or sold to research laboratories when their racing days were over.  Now, their fate is changing thanks to adoption groups like Greyhounds Unlimited.

Ridley lives with his owner Gail Mayes in Brownsboro in Henderson County.  Ridley was found starving and covered with wounds in an Arkansas forest.  Mayes nursed Ridley back to health and adopted him.  She says he has become one of the family and is the best pet imaginable.

Fortunately, thanks to rescue groups across the country, people are beginning to find out what wonderful pets Greyhounds make.  Denise Saleh, President of Greyhounds Unlimited of East Texas says they also make great Therapets since they're so intelligent and gentle. Greyhounds Unlimited holds a Meet And Greet at Tyler's Petsmart the last Saturday of every month between 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.  For more information go to our homepage and click on the Know More on 7 page.  There you will find Greyhounds Unlimited.
