James (Jim) H. Baskin, 88, of Lufkin, was born May 7, 1919, in Mullins, Texas, and passed away Thursday, April 24, 2008, in a local hospice facility.
Mr. Baskin was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a retired purchasing agent for Mims Meat Company. Mr. Baskin served his country in the United States Navy during World War II, and he was a member of Lufkin's First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lorene Baskin of Lufkin; her sons and daughters-in-law, Grady and Helen Lowery and Bob and Janie Lowery, all of Lufkin; grandchildren, Pam McNeely, Kim Wren, Jason Lowery and Heather Mount; 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Loyd Baskin of Ohio; and a number of other family members.
Mr. Baskin was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and one sister.
Pallbearers will be Pam McNeely, Kim Wren, Jason Lowery, Heather Mount, Rob McNeely, David Wren, Justin Wren, Brittany McNeely, Ryan McNeely and Sara Lowery.
Expressions of sympathy in Mr. Baskin's memory may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 116 S. Raguet, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
Services for Mr. Baskin will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2008, in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Andrew G. Pittman officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
