Graveside services for Ruth Evelyn Burroughs Brown, 80, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, May 1, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in the Gann Cemetery with Reverend Raif Turner officiating.

Mrs. Brown was born June 10, 1927 in Angelina County, Texas to Evelyn (Hammond) and James Curtis Burroughs, and died Sunday, April 27, 2008 in a local hospital.

A former resident of Corpus Christi, Texas, Mrs. Brown had resided in Lufkin for 24 plus years. She was a retired clerk, having been employed by DETCOG. Mrs. Brown loved gardening, antique shopping and traveling.  She was of the Baptist faith. 

Survivors include her daughter, D'Ann Shatto of Chouteau, Oklahoma; sons and daughters-in-law, James Franklin III and Lillian Miner of Toms River, New Jersey, Robert Coleman and Michelle Miner of Long Island, New York and John Timothy and Florence Miner of Lexington, Kentucky; daughter, Patricia Miner of Lufkin; 12 grandchildren; 14 great- grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, James F. Miner, Jr.; second husband, Richard Brown; and sister, Edith Mae Gresham.

Pallbearers will be Tim Miner, Shanon Jacobs, Josh Gresham, Denim Holly, Baylon Williford and Bo David Williford.

Memorial contributions may be made for breast cancer research to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 5005 LBJ Freeway, Suite 250, Dallas, Texas 75244.
