The Nacogdoches Police Department wants motorists to know the moratorium on impounding vehicles without car insurance has ended. Beginning May 1 uninsured drivers run the risk of having their car towed. When a vehicle is impounded for no liability insurance the owner must provide proof of current insurance to the police department. Once coverage is verified, a certificate will be issued for the release of the vehicle. The owner will be responsible for any towing and storage fees. According to Chief Jim Sevey, one third of the drivers involved in traffic accidents in Nacogdoches were driving without insurance.
