Funeral services for Mamie Hawkins Cryer, 94, of Zavalla, will be held Sunday, May 4, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Bro. Cary Modisett and Bro. Jacob Fitzgerald officiating. Interment will follow in the Zavalla Cemetery.

Mrs. Cryer was born November 4, 1913, in Angelina County, Texas, to Sara Elizabeth (McIntosh) and Charlie Hawkins, and died Friday, May 2, 2008, in a Lufkin hospital.

Mrs. Cryer was a homemaker and a devoted, mother, and grandmother.  The focus of her life was her children.  She loved to quilt, sew, gardening and flowers.  When her children were growing up, she made most of their clothes.  Mrs. Cryer enjoyed sports and was a faithful supporter of the Zavalla Eagles.  She would help everyone she could.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Zavalla, and had resided in Zavalla most of her life. 

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Joe Poskey of Lufkin; daughter, Mary Harris of Lufkin; daughter, Nita Mahan of Hudson; grandchildren and their spouses, Vicki and Delbert Jones, Terry and Karen Harris, Joey and Nancy Harris, Robin Riddle, Rodney and Lori Mahan, Jeanna Mahan, Liz and Bill Murphy, and Pattie and Allan Stemple; eleven great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Cryer; daughter, Barbara Roach; and sons-in-law, John Mahan, Herb Harris and Barley Roach.

Pallbearers will be Terry Harris, Joey Harris, Rodney Mahan, Gary Mitchell, Delbert Jones and Jeffery Hudspeth.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Clinton Hawkins, Tony Hooter, Jeff Hooter, Marlin Cryer and Elvie Cryer.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Zavalla, 1034 E. Main, Zavalla, Texas 75980.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home in Huntington.
