STEP & Railroad Crossing Safety

Slow down and buckle up. A week from today the Nacogdoches Police Department will start the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program. During the Memorial Day travel season of May 19th through June 1 additional police officers will be on the streets. The extra patrol will be focusing on two areas of violation.   Nacogdoches Police Officer Logan Finch said,    " We're going to be looking for, focusing mainly on speeding and seat belt violations, child seat belt violations. So we want people to buckle up and drive slower and be safe. "

This Thursday the police department will also be heavily enforcing railroad crossings. Union Pacific will be helping officers with this enforcement. Drivers are reminded that when crossing lights are flashing, you stop and don't proceed until the lights go off.
