James "Jim" Harold Johnson

James "Jim" Harold Johnson, 80, of Huntington/Brownsville, was born March 19, 1928 in Rusk, Texas, the son of the late Carmen (Fann) and John D. Johnson. He passed away Friday, May 23, 2008, in Brownsville.

Mr. Johnson was the president of Johnson International Materials of Brownsville for over 40 years, was a partner in Jim Johnson's Ropa Usadas for 35 years, and was also a partner in Johnson's Land & Cattle Co. and Running J Ranch. He loved the outdoors and owned several thousand acres of land in partnership with his brothers. He enjoyed fishing and hunting (especially squirrels). Mr. Johnson served his country with the United States Air Force, and was a member of Shawnee Prairie Missionary Baptist Church in Huntington.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Johnson of Brownsville; children, Oscar, Darla and Hiram, all of Brownsville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Joan Johnson of Huntington and Gary and Marie Johnson of McAllen; nieces and their husbands, Debbie and Paul Clifton of Lufkin, Jan and Rusty Pittman of Brownsville and Jennifer and Keith Linderman of Florida; niece, Becky Johnson of McAllen; nephew and his wife, Bubba and Christy Johnson of Huntington; great-nieces and nephews, Christi and David Flowers, Callie and Mark Hicks, Joshua Clifton, J. P. Clifton, Lauren Pittman, Ceciley Pittman, Jayme Pittman, Brian Pittman, Lane Johnson, Mary Johnson, John Dee Johnson, Anna Johnson, Brooke Johnson, Laura Burgess, Abigail and Tatum Linderman; great-niece, Caroline Hicks; very special friend, Joe Fernandez; and a number of other family members and special friends.

Pallbearers will be Don Bess, Shane Bess, Roger Martin, David Kelley, Harold Jones, David Crain, Kelvin Jones and Sherman Snelson.

Services for Mr. Johnson will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 25, 2008, at Shawnee Prairie Missionary Baptist Church, with Bro. Chris Turner and Gary Forrest officiating. Interment will follow in the Manning Cemetery.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.

A memorial service for Mr. Johnson will be held at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2008 at Central Christian Church, 1100 E. Alton Gloor Blvd., Brownsville, Texas, with visitation from 4:00 p.m. until service time at the church.
