Hester "Walker" Evans
Hester (Walker) Evans, 89, of Lufkin, was born December 5, 1918, in Lufkin, the daughter of the late Paralee (Bennett) and Benjamin Franklin Young. She passed away Sunday, May 25, 2008, in a local hospital.
Mrs. Evans was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a graduate of Huntington High School and was retired from Lufkin State School. She loved helping people and enjoyed playing bingo. She was a devoted Christian and a member of Brother's Keepers Church.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Harry and Betty Walker of Troup and John and Glenda Walker of Lufkin; grandchildren, Eric Havard, Lisa Havard, Guy Walker, Greta Whitten, Johnna Walker, Clint Walker and Kayla Walker; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Countryman of Cleveland; and a number of nieces, nephews and other family members.
Mrs. Evans was preceded in death by her husbands, Otha Walker and Nealy Evans; daughter, Carolyn Walker Havard; and sister, Verla James.
Graveside services for Mrs. Evans will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2008, in the Fielder Cemetery, with Bro. David Sarver and Reverend Emory K. Quarles officiating.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
