Time to Think About Vaccinating Horses

Jeff Davis Parish in Louisiana has reported three rabies cases within a year.

The latest happened on May 16, when a horse was attacked by a skunk who was put down and tested positive for rabies.

The horse handler, who may have come in contact with infected saliva, was given post-exposure vaccinations just to be on safe side.

Health officials don't think he is infected.

The horse is quarantined by the State Department of Agriculture, but isn't showing signs of infection.

Most people are used to having their dogs and cats vaccinated, but state health officials are also asking peopel to make sure outdoor animals, including horses, are also protected.
